Aberbach Beach - a short drive from Yr Hafan

Aberbach Beach – a short drive from Yr Hafan

One of our favourite days out starts with a stroll through the lovely leafy National Trust valley starting at Abermawr (just 15 minutes drive from Yr Hafan)   – meander beside tumbling streams,  scramble up the bank to brave the rope swing (suspended over the valley – not for the fainthearted!) and end up at the beach at Abermawr. Walk along the sandy beach at low tide with the sun glinting off the surf watching the odd surfer and looking out for  grey Atlantic seals and for sea birds. Next we take the coast path over to the gorgeous small bay at Aberbach  where you can stop for a picnic before crossing the small river and heading back up the pretty valley to Melin Tregwynt Mill. Stop here for coffee and cake or a lovely lunch before mooching around the working mill and shop. You can walk back the same way or stroll along the quiet road beside the river to Abermawr Beach and back up the other side of the valley crossing the field back to the car. A perfect day..

Starling Murmuration - Yr Hafan Holiday Cottages

Starling Murmuration – Yr Hafan Holiday Cottages

Here at Yr Hafan in November this year,  we witnessed this mesmerising sight of thousands of birds swooping and diving in unison, performing an aerial dance at dusk over our heads  – what an amazing sight.  Apparently,  they gather over their roosting site, and perform their wheeling stunts before they roost for the night.
